I’m currently working on a writing course called Write A Novel Now, walking you through some of the things you’ll need to know on your way to writing a novel.
The course is video-driven, but it’s going to be self-guided as well. What that means is that you’ll be able to work through the lessons at your own pace. Want to knock out a lot of them on Saturdays? Go for it. Want to pace it out over the course of a year? You can do that as well.
The course is going to be hosted and managed by Udemy.com, a platform for self-guided courses covering everything from photography to web design to self-publishing.
What’s different about this course?
If you’ve been here for any length of time, you’ve probably heard me mention the free 20-part email course, The Fiction Writer’s Guide to Writing Fiction. The free course is actually what launched the idea of the Udemy course, and it does cover some of the same material.
There are going to be differences, of course. Since the Udemy course will be a premium (paid) course, I’ve added a lot to it. Rather than simple, “overview”-style lessons like in the email course, the Udemy course will be more in-depth than any other writing course I’ve seen on the market.
Further, it’s actionable. I don’t like vague, “10-tips-for-success”-type lessons that don’t go into any detail, so I’ve worked into each lesson specific, action-based checklists with examples and even “homework.” You’re going to really enjoy going through the content because — if you follow the lessons — you’re going to achieve immediate, measurable results.
Why you should care
If you’ve ever gotten stuck in the middle of writing a novel, this course will help.
If you’ve wanted to write a novel, but had no idea where to start, this course will help.
If you’ve finished a novel, written a second (or a third, or a fourth, etc.), and want to write another, this course will help.
Writing a novel is certainly art, but there’s also structure to it. This course is about the structure and planning process of writing, and how to go from idea to “The End.”
Why it will help
Write A Novel Now starts at the beginning — how to find ideas, turn them into story ideas, and work those into concepts. You’ll learn proven methods for turning your concept into a full-fledged outline, and how to turn that outline into the beginnings of a great story.
Along the way, you’ll discover how to quickly create characters that live and breathe, write realistic settings, and move your story along at a quick pace.
Finally, you’ll learn methods to help you stay productive, stay motivated, and get the writing done. There’s no joy like that of finishing an entire manuscript, and this course will get you there.
How to get started
If you’re interested, the first step is to sign up here. I’ll be sending coupon codes, giving away free courses, and including special bonuses for those on the mailing list.
When the course is ready to launch, you’ll get a email with the link and how to sign up. Until then, of course, there’s plenty of great content in the meantime!
Oh, and here’s the intro video!
